Overseasidol.com — Chinese actress Zhao Liying has sparked renewed discussion after openly sharing her disappointment with the drama Princess Agents, one of her most well-known projects.
She revealed that the final production did not meet her initial expectations due to significant changes in the storyline.
Zhao explained that she originally believed the series would fully adapt the original novel, including the later parts of the story that highlight the character’s complete development.
However, the adaptation was heavily condensed, covering only a portion of the source material.
She emphasized that the most compelling aspects of Chu Qiao’s journey appear in the later chapters, where the character demonstrates strength, independence, and deeper intellectual growth.
Without these elements, she felt that the character’s full potential was not properly conveyed on screen.
In addition, Zhao addressed production-related issues, including the expansion of the episode count beyond the original plan.
This led to pacing problems and diluted the main storyline. She candidly described her experience as feeling “misled” by how the project ultimately turned out.
Reports have also suggested that a sequel to the drama has been discussed multiple times, with producers offering Zhao Liying a return under improved conditions, including script revisions and greater creative control.
