Taiwanese actor Xiu Jie Kai appeared in court on July 29, 2026, in connection with a military service fraud case.
During the hearing, he admitted paying NT$150,000 to obtain fake medical records claiming he had high blood pressure in order to change his military status to alternative service.
Xiu Jie Kai told the court that he was introduced to the main suspect, Chen Zhiming, through fellow entertainer Kunda Hsieh.
He admitted paying NT$50,000 in cash and transferring another NT$100,000 to secure the forged medical documents.
Although he acknowledged his actions, Xiu Jie Kai said his decision was influenced by family circumstances rather than an intention to avoid military service.
He also noted that he had already completed alternative military service and therefore did not consider himself someone who had completely evaded his obligation.
The actor asked the court to consider his cooperation, including his charity work and donations made during his alternative service, when determining his sentence.
He requested probation or a prison sentence of less than six months.
Prosecutors, however, opposed a simplified judgment and said the case would proceed alongside other defendants involved in the same investigation.
Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Xiu Jie Kai said he is sincerely reflecting on his mistakes and will respect the judicial process.
When asked about his year-long absence from the spotlight, he briefly responded that he still needs to continue reflecting on his actions. (Overseasidol.com)
