The movie is based on the historical Battle of Penghu in 1683 during the Qing Dynasty.
It follows Admiral Shi Lang’s mission to lead a naval campaign aimed at unifying Taiwan after a period of political turmoil and power struggles on the island.
The production of “Peng Hu” stands out for its massive scale and meticulous preparation, which took nearly 34 months.
The production team reconstructed around 50 different types of ships, including 12 large warships measuring close to 40 meters in length.
To realistically portray naval warfare, a massive 30,000-square-meter outdoor blue-screen studio was built in Wuxi, equipped with advanced motion platforms.
Filming took place across multiple locations, including Quanzhou in Fujian Province and Wuxi in Jiangsu, where the crew faced extreme weather conditions such as typhoons, intense heat, and freezing temperatures.
Thanks to its ambitious production and historical significance, the film has already been recognized as one of the most anticipated Chinese films of the 2024–2025 period.
