Director Frant Gwo has revealed that the script for The Wandering Earth 3 is still being revised despite having been in development for about two and a half years.
He explained that the rapid pace of technological advancement has made many earlier creative ideas outdated, requiring the team to continuously rethink and update the story.
In an interview with CCTV News, Frant said that technology is evolving so quickly that concepts considered innovative just a few years ago may no longer feel fresh.
As a result, the production team continues refining the screenplay to ensure it remains relevant for modern audiences.
The director also emphasized that the heart of a film lies in its emotional storytelling rather than its visual effects alone.
He believes a successful movie must connect with contemporary viewers and reflect the spirit of its time.
On August 1, Frant reposted the interview clip on social media and tagged the official The Wandering Earth account.
He jokingly wrote, “If we don’t hurry up, it will become a documentary,”.
The humorous remark quickly caught fans’ attention, referring to how rapidly real-world technology is catching up with science fiction.
The Wandering Earth 3 is currently scheduled for release during the Chinese New Year holiday in 2027,
