Overseasidol.com — China Media Group (CMG) and FIFA officially announced a new broadcasting rights agreement on May 15, 2026, covering several major international football tournaments in the upcoming competition cycle.
Under the agreement, CMG has secured exclusive multimedia broadcasting rights for mainland China.
The deal includes free-to-air television, pay TV, internet streaming platforms, mobile broadcasting, and media sublicensing rights for all tournaments included in the partnership.
The cooperation package covers the 2026 FIFA World Cup, 2030 FIFA World Cup, 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The partnership further strengthens the long-standing relationship between FIFA and CMG, which dates back to 1978.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will mark a historic edition of the tournament, as it will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the first time in history that three countries co-host the event.
The tournament is scheduled to run from June 12 to July 20, 2026, Beijing time.
The 2026 edition will also introduce FIFA’s expanded format, increasing the number of participating teams from 32 to 48.
A total of 104 matches will be played, making it the largest World Cup tournament ever held.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the broadcasting rights agreement between FIFA and CMG officially took effect on the afternoon of the announcement.
Reports stated that the broadcasting rights fee for the 2026 World Cup reached approximately US$60 million.
