Overseasidol.com — Chinese actor Johnny Huang has officially been announced as one of China’s earliest commercial space tourists.
The confirmation was made on January 22 through the official Weibo account of Beijing Interstellor Manned Space Technology Co., Ltd., known as “interstellOr”.
Huang has been designated as space tourist number 009 and is scheduled to travel aboard a Chinese-made spacecraft in 2028.
In a video message released alongside the announcement, Johnn expressed his pride and excitement at becoming a space traveler.
He shared that it is a great honor to journey into space aboard a spacecraft developed by China and to personally witness the vastness of the stars beyond Earth.
On January 23, the company’s brand representative, Mr. Du, explained that Johnny Huang was selected due to his well-known tough and resilient on-screen persona.
His role in the science fiction drama Sea of Dreams, which is closely related to space exploration, also made him a strong match for the company’s image and vision.
Interstellor stated that its long-term goal is to enable more people to access space safely, enjoyably, and conveniently.
As technology advances, the company plans to gradually reduce ticket prices to make space travel more accessible.
Its space tourism roadmap consists of three major phases, beginning with suborbital flights, followed by orbital missions, and eventually lunar exploration.
According to the current plan, the suborbital spacecraft CYZ1 is expected to conduct its first crewed flight around 2028, carrying passengers to an altitude of 100 kilometers above Earth, known as the Kármán Line.
Travelers will experience five to ten minutes of weightlessness. Starting in 2032, the orbital spacecraft CYZ2 aims to transport crews to a 400-kilometer orbit for multi-day stays.
By 2038, the CYZ3 spacecraft is projected to reach lunar orbit, covering a distance of 380,000 kilometers.
