Featuring 25 episodes with a runtime of about 45 minutes each, the drama stars prominent actors including Charmaine Sheh, Patrick Tam, Alice Chan, Kalok Chow, and veteran performer Hui Shiu-hung in what is reported to be his final project.
The series is produced in both Cantonese and Mandarin and filmed across locations in mainland China and Hong Kong.
“Themis” centers on the juvenile justice system and highlights the complexities of youth crime. The story follows High Court judge Yin Wei-zi, portrayed by Charmaine Sheh, who investigates a case involving a 14-year-old boy accused of causing the death of a six-year-old child who fell from a rooftop playground.
During the trial, the teenager claims he was trying to save the younger boy from falling, leading the jury to rule the incident an unfortunate accident and declare him not guilty.
However, upon reviewing his past records, Judge Yan discovers that he had previously been brought to juvenile court several times for minor offenses but avoided lasting consequences due to his young age.
This realization prompts Yan to make a surprising career move by voluntarily stepping down to serve as a juvenile court judge.
She believes that guiding troubled youth early and helping them develop proper values is essential to preventing more serious crimes in the future.
