Chinese singer Jess Lee Jiawei’s studio released an official statement on July 29, 2026.
Management firmly rejecting allegations that her new song “Jia Yi Bing Ding” (甲乙丙丁) copied Zhou Rui’s 2021 track “The Stranded Whale” (搁浅的鲸).
According to the statement, the accusation is completely unfounded and does not reflect the facts.
The studio stressed that Jess Lee’s song does not infringe on or plagiarize Zhou Rui’s work.
The studio demanded that Zhou Rui immediately stop spreading what it described as false and damaging claims.
It also requested a public apology and the removal of all related content that could harm Lee Jiawei’s reputation.
The statement further warned that if the alleged infringement continues, Lee’s team will appoint legal representatives and pursue legal action, including civil litigation and reports to the relevant authorities.
Following the controversy, Zhou Rui clarified that his criticism was directed at the songwriters and composers, rather than Lee Jiawei as the performer.
Despite the clarification, the dispute has continued to attract widespread discussion online. (Overseasidol.com)
