Overseasidol.com — The upcoming film “Hodonaku, Owakare Desu” will feature a powerful cast led by Minami Hamabe and Ren Meguro from Snow Man.
It has now been confirmed that Mirai Shida and Keisuke Watanabe will also appear, marking their first collaboration together. Exclusive stills of their roles have been revealed.
The movie is adapted from the award-winning novel series by Amane Nagatsuki, which has sold over 400,000 copies.
The story follows funeral planners, professionals who guide grieving families by arranging ceremonies that honor the deceased.
Hamabe plays Miku Shimizu, a young woman who failed in job hunting and joined a funeral company as an intern.
Meguro stars as Reiji Urushibara, a strict but skilled planner who scouts and trains her. Together, they aim to create the “perfect funeral”.
Directed by Takashi Miki, known for My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday and Even If This Love Disappears Tonight, the screenplay is supervised by Yoshikazu Okada and written by Takaaki Honda.
Music will be composed by Seiji Kameda, who has worked with major Japanese artists such as GLAY, Sheena Ringo, Spitz, Ken Hirai, and Ikimono Gakari.
Shida and Watanabe play a grieving couple who lost their young daughter.
Shida takes on the role of Rie Kubota, a mother unable to accept her child’s death, delivering an emotional performance.
Watanabe portrays Hiroyuki Kubota, her supportive husband, marking his first role as a father as he struggles with grief while comforting his devastated wife.
“Hodonaku, Owakare Desu” is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters on February 6, 2026.
