Overseasidol.com — Thai host and entertainer Num Kanchai recently spoke up about the growing public debate over so-called “supernatural gurus” and donation controversy.
He admitted feeling saddened by the situation and stressed that faith should never be exploited as a tool for personal gain.
Kanchai pointed out that several self-proclaimed spiritual figures have been accused of unclear donation practices and manipulating belief.
Although he has not been deeply involved, he revealed that he reached out to some of them, asking for clarification.
“If you are not guilty, then speak up. Why stay silent?,” he said.
With sarcasm, he added: “If they claim to see everything, why don’t they look into their own fate first? Do they not see how this will affect society?”
Kanchai emphasized that he does not believe in mystical powers. However, as a Buddhist, he still prays and chants regularly.
“I used to fear ghosts, but after hosting programs, I realized such things do not exist,” he shared.
He also expressed his disappointment at seeing temples being used as fronts for profit-making.
Recalling that his father once crafted Buddha amulets, Kanchai admitted it is even harder for him to accept such misuse of faith.
“Seeing this makes me feel that Buddhism is being tainted. But religion itself is not wrong.
The problem lies with individuals who exploit it. Religion is not bad, and we will continue to worship with sincerity,” Kanchai concluded firmly.
