J-Pop idol AKB48 officially released a music video of new single “Sukiish” on July 13.
“Sukiish” serves as the title track of upcoming 68th single, scheduled for release on August 19, 2026.
The song once again features 19th-generation member Ito Momoka as the center, following her leading role in the previous single, “Nagori Sakura.”
The title “Sukiish” comes from the word “ish” expressing the feeling of “maybe” or “kind of”.
The song tells the story of someone beginning to realize they may be falling in love.
It combines AKB48’s signature refreshing style with an upbeat and emotional pop sound.
The music video opens with a retro-inspired prom party reminiscent of the 1960s and 1970s.
Ito Momoka plays a girl waiting for the person she likes to make the first move.
Inside her imagination is a “Love Command Center” where the other AKB48 members monitor the situation through giant screens while coming up with different strategies to help her romance succeed.
The MV also includes scenes that pay homage to AKB48’s iconic “Heavy Rotation” music video, including a memorable pillow fight sequence.
The choreography was created by Sako Makita, marking her first collaboration with AKB48.
The music video was directed by Dai Ikeda, who previously directed AKB48’s “Koi Tsumanjatta” and “Masaka no Confession”. (Overseasidol.com)
