Speaking during an interview at the recording of the 2026 Spring Festival Gala for Chinese Literature and Arts, the actor firmly denied the speculation.
In what many netizens described as a “four-part denial,” Zhang Yi clearly stated that he is not quitting acting, not leaving the entertainment industry, not retiring, and not going on hiatus.
His remarks were aimed at correcting misunderstandings stemming from a previous comment he made during the Huabiao Film Awards.
At that time, Zhang Yi mentioned he hoped to “pause for a while,” which some interpreted as a sign that he intended to withdraw from acting.
However, the actor clarified that his words referred to slowing down his work pace in order to reconnect with everyday life and gain more real-world experience.
Zhang Yi explained that taking time to live and observe life helps prevent actors from falling into repetitive performance patterns caused by an overloaded filming schedule.
