Overseasidol.com — The debate surrounding the misuse of artificial intelligence to replicate celebrities’ faces and voices is intensifying in China.
Recently, internet users discovered that several AI platforms, including Doubao AI, have begun restricting requests to generate images, videos, or voice content related to actor Cheng Yi.
The move quickly sparked discussion online, as users reported that prompts attempting to recreate the actor’s likeness were no longer allowed by the system.
At the same time, information from business data platform Tianyancha revealed details of a legal dispute involving the alleged misuse of a celebrity’s image through AI technology.
According to the report, the Beijing Internet Court previously issued legal documents to Fuyang Zhishang Culture Media Co., Ltd. in a case filed by actress Dilraba Dilmurat over an online infringement dispute.
The case reportedly stems from a short drama produced by the company. Viewers noticed that the female actor appearing in the production bore a striking resemblance to Dilraba.
In several scenes, audiences also observed unusual facial movements, including mismatched lip motions and inconsistent facial features in close-up shots from different angles.
These irregularities led to speculation that AI face-swapping or deepfake technology may have been used to imitate the actress without authorization.
The court is expected to hold a hearing a few days after the evidence submission period concludes.
This is not the first case of its kind in China’s entertainment industry. Other celebrities, including Yang Mi and Wen Zhengrong, have also filed lawsuits against parties suspected of using AI to replicate their appearance without permission.
