Overseasidol.com — Japanese idol powerhouse AKB48 has officially released the music video for its 67th single, “Nagori Zakura”, ahead of the single’s official launch on February 25.
The MV was unveiled on February 20, marking the group’s first major release as they enter their 21st year in the industry.
After celebrating a spectacular 20th anniversary filled with concerts and special appearances alongside former iconic members, AKB48 now steps into a new chapter.
“Nagori Zakura” serves as the first single of their 21st year, symbolizing the baton passed from senior generations to the current lineup.
Notably, this marks the group’s first official sakura-themed title track in nearly 15 years.
AKB48’s previous cherry blossom songs, including “Sakura no Hanabiratachi”, “10nen Zakura”, and “Sakura no Ki ni Narou” remain deeply embedded in the group’s history and are widely regarded as timeless classics among fans.
The center position for this highly anticipated single is entrusted to 19th-generation member Ito Momoka, whose popularity has surged thanks to her viral presence on social media.
With her refreshing visuals and strong on-screen charisma, Ito represents the new generation of AKB48, embodying youthful brilliance and emotional depth throughout the MV.
Director Takuya Kawasaki shared that the members were encouraged to approach the filming not as idols, but as ordinary students reminiscing about their school days.
The natural and heartwarming school scenes bring an authentic “youthful nostalgia” atmosphere to the video.
