Chinese Republican-era drama Overdo starring Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan, has quickly replaced its AI-generated opening sequence after receiving negative feedback from viewers.

The controversy began shortly after the drama premiered on July 19.

Audiences criticized the AI-generated opening for its stiff character animation, unnatural lighting, and rough visual effects, arguing that it failed to match the production quality expected from a major television series.

The opening soon became a trending topic on social media, with many viewers comparing its visuals to a simple slideshow or a game-style animation rather than a high-budget television drama.

In response to the criticism, the production team introduced a new live-action opening on the evening of July 21.

The updated version has currently been applied to Episodes 8 and 9, while the remaining episodes are expected to receive the same update in the coming days.

The incident also sparked discussion about production costs.

Industry insiders suggested that AI-generated openings are significantly less expensive than traditional production methods, leading some viewers to question whether cost-saving measures influenced the original creative decision.

However, the production team has not officially commented on the matter. (Overseasidol.com)
