The Republican-era Chinese drama “Overdo”, starring Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan, officially received a 5.1 rating on Douban on July 25, 2026.
More than 35,000 users have submitted ratings, making it one of the most talked-about dramas of the summer season.
According to Douban data, 15.2% of viewers awarded the drama five stars, 14.9% gave four stars, and 13.3% selected three stars.
Negative reviews accounted for a significant share, with 23.8% giving two stars and 32.8% awarding just one star, reflecting highly divided audience opinions.
Before its premiere, Overdo generated enormous anticipation.
As Zhang Linghe’s first major drama following “Pursuit of Jade,” the series surpassed 10 million reservations across streaming platforms.
However, after its release, viewers criticized its cinematography, melodramatic storyline, and overall production quality, leading to polarized reactions.
Despite the mixed reception, the drama continues to perform strongly in terms of viewership.
According to Yunhe data, its market share has climbed to 18.8%, indicating that audience interest remains high even as online reviews remain divided.
With a 5.1 Douban score, Overdo currently ranks at the bottom among the rated Chinese summer dramas of 2026.
