Chinese actress Esther Yu’s studio released an official statement on July 27, 2026, addressing the growing number of AI-generated videos and short dramas that allegedly use her facial features and voice without authorization.
According to the statement, Yu has never participated in the filming, recording, or production of any AI-generated content currently circulating online.
The studio also emphasized that it has never granted permission to any company, platform, or individual to use the actress’s image or voice for AI-related projects.
The agency stated that many commercial AI short dramas appear to replicate Esther’s appearance, facial expressions, and signature voice through deep synthesis technology.
It stressed that all such content is unauthorized and may constitute an infringement of her legally protected portrait and voice rights.
The studio also noted that some AI productions reportedly feature female characters with a strong resemblance to Esther Yu, while the voice performances closely imitate her speaking style and tone from previous drama roles.
As a result, many viewers have found it increasingly difficult to distinguish AI-generated content from genuine performances.
To protect the actress’s rights, the studio said it has already collected and preserved evidence related to the alleged infringements.
